The Gold Fish
A Hero’s Journey

This painting of the Gold Fish in the sea and the moonlight was inspired by a story about a Little Black Fish who was remarkably brave.
In the story, the Little Black Fish couragesly leaves her home in a stream to find the Sea and to see the Moonlight. After overcoming many obstacles on its way to the Sea, she miraculously finds herself in the Sea. The ending of the story and what happens to the Little Black Fish is not known.
The story begins as the old Grandma Fish gathers her children and grandchildren and says:
Once upon a time a little black fish lived with its mother in a stream which rose out of the rocky walls of a mountain and flowed through a valley. Their home was behind a black, moss-covered rock, under which both of them slept at night. The little fish longed to see the moonlight …
The story ends with:
"Grandmother!" exclaimed the children and grandchildren, "You didn't say what happened to that tiny black fish."
"We'll leave that for tomorrow night," said the old fish. "Now, it's time for bed. Goodnight."

Everyone wonders about “What happened to the Little Black Fish?”

I think, perhaps the Little Black Fish transformed into a Gold Fish!
